FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The Track and Field team capped off the NCAA West Preliminary Round Saturday with 28 qualifiers for the national outdoor meet which will be held next month in Eugene, Ore.

The top-ranked women collected 16 qualifiers in 12 events over the last three days at the University of Arkansas, which held one of the two national regionals this weekend. The No. 7 men will have 12 qualifiers in 10 events. Decathletes Johannes Hock and Wolf Mahler were already among the men's qualifiers, though they did so by virtue of the their regular-season performance. There was no decathlon competition at the regional meet.

The top 12 times/marks in each event at both the East and West Preliminary Rounds earned berths to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Individual events featured 48 athletes at each regional and the relays were pared from 24 down to 12.

"It was a complete and total team effort over the weekend," head coach Mario Sategna said. "It's more than just showing up and saying 'run fast and throw far.' There is a lot of attention to detail by the athletes and staff, and you can see where that paid huge dividends."
