FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Wayne Davis II and Brea Garrett broke school records and the Texas A&M track and field team produced 12 more entries into the NCAA Championship field to highlight the final day of the NCAA West preliminary rounds Saturday at John McDonnell Field. The dozen new bids to the NCAA track meet, to be held in Eugene, Oregon from June 11-14, brings A&M's total to 26 athletes with 35 entries in 23 events. The men's team will send 14 athletes and 19 entries in 14 events while the women will have 12 athletes and 16 entries in nine events.
Davis II lowered his school record in the 110-meters hurdles to 13.20 seconds to qualify for Eugene, good for No. 3 on the all-time collegiate list but second to Southern California's Aleec Harris (13.18) in a later heat. Garrett opened Saturday's competition with a school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 201 feet, 4 inches on her third-round attempt, good for third in the competition.
